Oracle "Beyond Omega" Review

Alabama natives Oracle deliver a devastatingly crushing brand of Melodic Blackened Death Metal, Formed in 2016 and featuring ex & current members of Melodic Death Metal act Curse The Flesh. This is their debut album entitled Beyond Omega.

Meticulously crafting an atmosphere & musicianship akin to the likes of Septic Flesh, Behemoth & Emperor, Oracle create a level of brutality & groove not usually prevelent with Melodic Blackened Death Metal bands, it's not often a band maintains a level of Brutality & Melody so fantastically without it been smothered in the mix, the album displays defined & audible vocals while the guitars offer symphonic, explosive crescendos, the drumming brings it all together mixing extremely brutal blast beats with an element of groove making the whole album well worth a listen.

Oracle have laid the foundations for something truly monumental, they may well be taking influence from luminaries within the international Death & Black Metal scene but they deliver it with stellar muscianship and a passion & energy that make this an extremely worthwhile listen.

Tumourboy "Damaged System" Review

Delivering a psychotic brand of Thrash Metal all the way from China Tumourboy formed in 2014 and have released one EP Noise, Beer, Love and this their full length debut aptly titled Damaged System.

It's very obvious to see these hooligans have a love of Old School Thrash Metal taking influence from Sepultura, Nuclear Assault & Vio-lence with a modern twist all their own. Touching on Socio-Political issues, a love of beer & metal(hehehe) and a brief homage to the TV programme Dexter in the track Bay Serial Killer, the musicianship on offer is very frenzied,in your face and downright jaw dropping, on first listen the vocals might seem a bit all over the place but on numerous blasts it adds to the overall frenzied appraoch and is very aggressive and abrasive.

Tumourboy are intent on creating a ferociously abrasive brand of Thrash Metal and long may it continue, if you complain that this is too fast you're a poser, what's on offer is fantastic, considering the band is pretty young you would think they've been playing fro a good few yearsthis album should be a big hit with die hard Thrash Hooligans.

The Evil Dead Interview

The Evil Dead have been causing quite a storm with their new album Earth Inferno. Metal & Carnage is here to give you the lowdown on the band, album promotion, live shows courtesy of the bands guitarist Michel Regueiro.

Firstly i would like to take the opportunity to thank you for doing this interview.

Thank you! much appreciated.

I'm aware that the band also features your two brothers Ian & Alejandro but we're curious to know how and when the band was formed?

The band was formed was formed in Beunos Aires arond the Autumn of 2006, it merely started as a way to have fun playing cover songs and drinking beer but within a few months we were already doing our own material, had a manager and booked a studio for the recording of our first demo. Alejandro literally joined a couple of days before the recording, he never got to rehearse.

I really love the sound on Earth Inferno and have noticed a progression from what was on offer on Pronounced The Evil Dead and would like to know where was the album recorded and who produced & mixed the album?

We wanted a different sound, the first album sounds very alive, raw and mean but this time we needed a more clear and controlled sound while maintaining that rawness of the speakers moving air. The album was recorded at The Four Winds Studio in Beunos Aires, it was recorded and engineered by Pablo Fontan and mixed by both of us. I took care of the production. It will never sound exactly as one envisions it in your head but i think we came pretty close, the overall result is pretty good.

With regard to the album do the band plan on playing live shows to promote it?

Once the  promotion time is up we will get into that .There is no rush at the moment first we wanna see how well the album is received but we definitely are interested in taking the Inferno out on the road so don’t hesitate to get in touch .

I've noticed on the album that there's elements of Black Metal.Traditional Heavy Metal & Rock n Roll what we'd like to know is what bands were The Evil Dead mainly influenced by?

We are influenced by all kinds of music ,when it comes to metal the classics will always be there to look up to but we also listen to classical music, movie/games soundtracks,50´s style music and more .Some bands that have definitely been a direct influence on us are Dissection, Metallica ,Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Bathory,  Beherit,  Skynyrd , AC/DC , BÖC , Motörhead  and many more.

Have to say the cover art for Earth Inferno is pretty cool who came up with the concept & design for it?

Another Vision Design  brought over  some rough sketches of the general idea to us backstage at a gig and we signed on it immediately . The song Earth Inferno had been written and he based the designs on the music and lyrics and we went through a LOT of changes til we had the perfect one . It couldn’t have come out  any better its an absolutely iconic piece of artwork.

We're interested to know what is the metal scene like in Argentina and is there a strong fan following?

The Argentine metal scene is quite fragmented and its very hard for new bands to succeed .Nowadays there are tons of bands with lots of talent and prospects but the crowds mainly show up for international acts ,touring the country is super difficult due to poor infrastructure and long distances which make touring a financial black hole and on top of that promoters very rarely honour their contracts (even if there is a contract to begin with ). Metal is pretty big in Argentina but like I said its pretty hard for bands to “make it” over here.

Not sure if you've been asked this before but what type of Guitars & Equipment do the band use in the studio and at live gigs?

Our equipment is very simple we are very old school, for a live setting we've been mostly using Sovtek and Vintage Electric(Argentine amp)  heads and Marshall cabs with no pedals whatsoever. In the studio this time we put a lot of effort into the guitar sound we used Sovtek, Marshall, Mesa Boogie and Vintage Electric heads all run through my Marshall cab. Bass was a Fender with an Ampeg and for guitars we had an SX Eplorer, a Scheter, a Korina Flying V,  Fender Stratocaster, Jackson King V and an old Hagstrom too but of course we won't disclose all studio secrets hehe.

As a Collective do the band have any future plans to come and play in Europe,is there any particular festival or country that you would all like to play?

Yeah we would love to in fact we were supposed to do a brazillian and European tour for “Pronounced(The Evil)Dead” but those fell through due to shitty promoters and bookers . We´d like to play them all honestly ,European festivals are fantastic whether big or small they all have something special . Germany is great market for metal as is the UK and Scandinavia ,The states and Japan would be beyond our wildest dreams !

Before i finish this interview is there anything you'd like to say to your fans, also for those not aware how to get hold of a physical copy of the album, what sources/links could you provide to help them out?

Thank you all and this record is for you ,the album will be distributed by Plastic Head so it should be available all around the globe but you can always get in touch with the label or us through facebook  or at  theevildeadargentina@hotmail.com  .The vinyl version and merchandise  should come later on so be sure to check on that .

Cheers & beers .
Michel

Miserist "Miserist" Review

Hailing From Australia Miserist are a band shrouded in mystery, delivering a unique brand of experimental Black/Death Metal. They started out under the moniker of  Headwar this is their debut S/T EP.

What's on offer here is an absolute cacophony of sound, Miserist have created a crushingly devastating brand of audio assault, enveloping the listener in a soundscape so unique and obliterating, blending Death & Black Metal with elements of Noise, Indutrial, Drone & Doom, the lack of vocals add a somewhat disturbing atmosphere to the release, of the 6 tracks on offer there's a plethora of different elements to keep the undivided attention of the listener mesmerized and somewhat disorientated.

This is an absolutely fantastic debut release offering brilliantly executed musicianship, if you're looking for upbeat and squeaky clean production this is not for you, Miserist are intent on creating an ugly, dark, unorthodox & destructive brand of music, this is not for the faint hearted or the weak minded, this is a total extermination of the sense.

Frowning "Extinct" Review

Hailing from Saxony, Germany Frowning is a one man project delivering dark, melancholic Funeral Doom, formed in 2011 the band has released a few singles, one split and two full length albums including this one simply entitled Extinct.

Creating an atmosphere so much colder & darker from his previous album Funeral Impressions sole member Val takes influence from such Funeral Doom legends like Evoken & Pantheist, without doubt this album creates an epicly constructed masterpiece, giving the listener a monumentally phenomenal album to get lost in, Extinct delivers five tracks of mournful gut wrenching vocals, epic sounscapes with Drone like effect and an eerie and desolate atmosphere, the added guest vocal apperaces of Stanislav of  Suffer Yourself on opening track Nocturnal Void & Hejkal of Ad Cinerem on Encumbered By Vermin adds a different layer of atmosphere to the tracks on offer, as a whole this album is more mature then the previous album  Funeral Impression offering a much darker atmosphere and an added heaviness that will have fans mesmerized.

Frowning have raised the bar significantly since their last release and will no doubt have many more people paying attention to the band, this is an album well worth it's weight in gold and offers many qualities that fans of Funeral Doom will be drooling about for years to come, also what awaits us in the future will surely create a bigger fan base for this band.

Snøgg "Qivitoq" Review

Hailing from Slovenia Snøgg offer a very unique and experimental approach to Black Metal, featuring two members Ulv(Guitar & Vocals) & Mørke(Drums), the band have released a tour demo & two EP's including this one entitled Qivitoq.

Combining an atmosphere & rawness similar to the likes of Burzum,Urfaust &  Xasthur there's an uneasiness & torturous element running throughout the EP, Opening track Alien Nation has some sort of radio frequency noise at the start of the track then suddenly the vocals kick in creating a rawness & nastiness i've not heard the like of before.  I've noticed that sometimes the vocals are less prominent then the music/noise effects on most of the tracks on offer, but when there is it adds a somewhat atmospheric element to proceedings. This is a very unique release which may well need numerous listen before it really sinks in, whats on offer is really good,it may well be very experimental but it sure as hell doesn't deter from the fact that there is some quality Black Metal on offer for the listener.

Qivitoq have a really underground ethos and they will surely have a mass cult following for years to come, what they offer is not going to be polished production, generic sounding Black Metal, they are meant to be raw, filthy and a very uneasy sounding band.
 BLACK F***ING METAL!!!!!

Carrion Curse "Feast Of The Maggots" Review

Carrion Curse are a Death Metal band hailing from Tallahassee,Florida; The band formed in 2014  and this is their debut album entitled "Feast Of The Maggots".

This is a really solid album offering a brand of no nonsense Death Metal that's a real headbanger. Kicking off the annihilation is title track Feast Of The Maggots which has a a really powerful & crushing groove reminiscent of Obituary &  Six Feet Under. There's a very Old School Death Metal vibe running throughout the album mixed with an aggression and technically proficient musicianship all their own. Of the eight tracks on offer there's plenty of worthwhile moments that will grab the listeners attention.

Carrion Curse may well be new to the scene they do have plenty of potential and with numerous more live shows and more releases will mature into an unstoppable Death Metal machine that's intent on Total Obliteration.
DEATH F***IN' METAL!!!!!
