Kessler Effect Kepler EP Review

Up until recently i wasn't aware of Kessler Effect so i really wanted to delve really deep into this excellent release to maintain a better understanding of the band, for those not in the know the band are based in Donegal and play a darkly atmospheric psychedelic tinged Progressive Space Rock along the lines of Pink Floyd and Hawkwind which feels like they want to bring you on an epic journey into the stratosphere.

Kicking off the EP is the hauntingly dark intro Day 1 which has some sort of distress signal from a crew lost in space before lauching into the hauntingly epic slow burner that is The Tightening with it's slightly harrowing element of losing time and desperately trying to get it back before unleashing a crescendo of emotions of repeating the cycle over again, the mood lightens a bit with the Beatles-esque Be Free evoking elements of good times long past, the psychedlic element running through the release is pushed into overdrive on this track with a few hallucinogenic inducing leads thrown in for good measure.

The second half of the EP gets extremely atmospheric with two fantastic instrumental tracks, the Pink Floyd influences becomes really apparent with the track Tecoma which has a brilliant atmosphere combined with soaring psychedelic riffs, also that distress signal on Day 1 makes a brief re-appearance before a beautiful harmonic lead pushes the lost in space feeling further into the stratosphere, the outro track Day 3,523 has a very melancholic and atmospheric feel which seems to portray that someone or something is still lost in space and not likely to return.

Kepler has a somewhat conceptual element to it with someone or something are eternally lost in space never to return, despite it's short length the EP does get the idea/concept across brilliantly and is well worth checking out.

Yurt "Yurt III - Molluskkepokk" Review

Hailing from Dublin, Irelands Yurt rose from the ashes of existence in 2006, spawning with them a brand of Progressive Space Rock that is here to bring you on an audio sonic assault of the senses. The Sonic Elders of Yurt have spoken and you will take heed.

From the moment you hear that space infused intro of A Lesion in The Chrysalis you know you're about to listen to something truly special & unique, despite the epic length of the songs there's a basic structure to the musicianship which is extremely effective without having the unwanted trait of been over indulgent usually associated with Progressive music, the band also add a very aggressive twin vocal attack that i've never heard in most Progressive music i've listened to over the years. every song on offer is brilliantly executed making the album as a whole almost flawless.

In ending i for one love this album and highly recommend people give it numerous listens, you're not likely to hear one that has originality, fantstic production & stellar musicianship, Yurt are an absolute breath of fresh air and deserve all the adulation & recognition they get.
